adventurings | autumn and winter

It's been a while since my last update. But then again, there are more important things in life. If it's a decision to sit and scroll, or get outside and explore the nature which inspires me, it's an easy decision.

So here we are, a brain and photo dump of things which inspired me over these colder months. Who says spring and summer gets all the fun nature?

I finally got my partner to see The Lakes. We spent a late October week exploring this largely crowd-free honeypot destination. The colours were just turning, so the rainforests were turning leafy brown to greeny lichen. We even got to see a red squirrel!

Even the words for the land is beautifully different to Celtic Cornwall. For example, a mountain is a "fell", stream a "beck", small lake a "tarn" and "dale" is a valley.

starlings

Murmurations of starlings can be found all over Cornwall. Believe it or not, this is the smaller one near Poldhu Beach. Like all of us during winter, starlings huddle together in massive roosts, assembling at dawn and dusk in these gorgeous displays.

aliens

Every autumn and winter, strange menacing things wash up on Cornish beaches. Physalia physalis is the Latin name, but more commonly known as the Portuguese Man o'War. They are tropical adventurers, blown in from warmer waters by the Gulf Stream. It's nice to have these alien beings drop in to remind me that Cornwall is connected to mysterious natural occurrences in the Atlantic.
